After we’d been dating for two years, my boyfriend broke up with me. He said, ‘Love shouldn’t be this hard.’ I was crushed; I felt like I’d lost the love of my life and my best friend.
Three months later, I agreed to be in a charity date auction at my college, where any guy could bid on me to win a date. On the night of the event, I was standing on the auction’s stage and I couldn’t see the crowd because of all the bright lights. Then the bidding started — and it didn’t stop until the bid reached $245!
Everyone clapped, and I stepped off the stage to find the winning guy. I was so nervous to meet him! He came forward from the back of the room and the crowd parted, and I felt my heart stop for a second. It was my ex-boyfriend! My eyes teared up; I was so happy it was him!
I didn’t even know how badly I wanted him to be there until that moment. We hugged each other for a minute and then I teased him, ‘You know, you could’ve been dating me for free if you hadn’t been so stupid.’ But I said it with a smile, and he smiled back. We decided our relationship was definitely worth another shot!”
